Research students’ reading clubs

Here is a suggestion for you, wherever you happen to work. Using papers that are available for free download, why not form a research students reading club in your Department/School or Faculty?  You could download a paper, all of you read it, then meet to discuss its strengths and weaknesses, and how useful it might be for people carrying out research in the relevant area.

Here is some advice about reviewing research papers that might form the basis of an agenda for your reading club meetings:

When you have finished your discussions, it would be good to post a summary of your group’s discussions on this page, so that other researchers can see what you made of the paper, and you can see what they made of it. In this way, we could generate some useful and interesting dialogue between researchers at different universities around the world.
